Keeping your transfers safe
Sending money should feel safe every single time. A few simple habits protect both you and the people you're paying — here's what to watch for and how to stay in control.
Protect your account
- Use a strong, unique password for your Express Remit account — not one you reuse elsewhere.
- Turn on biometric sign-in (fingerprint or face) where your device supports it.
- Keep your phone locked and your app updated to the latest version.
- Never share verification codes with anyone — we will never ask you for them.
Know the common scams
Most fraud isn't technical — it's someone trying to rush or pressure you. Be cautious if:
- someone you've only met online asks you to send money, especially urgently;
- you're told to pay a "fee" to unlock a prize, loan, or refund;
- a caller claims to be from a bank, the government, or even Express Remit and pressures you to transfer funds;
- a request to change a recipient's bank details arrives at the last minute.
Double-check before you send
Take a moment to confirm the recipient's name and account details match exactly. Once a transfer is paid out, it can be difficult or impossible to reverse — so the few seconds you spend checking are worth it.
If something looks wrong
Trust your instincts. If you think your account has been accessed without permission, or you've been targeted by a scam, change your password and contact us right away at hello@expressremit.ca. The sooner we hear from you, the more we can help.
